How to save new versions of a document in pages?

In word, it's extremely easy to save new versions of a document, then have them readily available for comparison.

You simply do "Save As XX1", Save As XX2", etc etc. I can pull up multiple versions side by side and compare the different versions.

In pages, whenever I save a new version of the document (with a new name, of course), it replaces the old document. I don't want a replacement for my old doc. I want a new version which I can compare it to side by side.

I'm relatively new to macs, but something so effortless on a PC is giving me a hard time.

Thanks for the help.

"Why save as a template first? That doesn't make sense."

For that matter, why export it to Word? The OP clearly wanted to save several versions of a Pages file.

Exporting to Word format means losing any Pages supported features used in the document that are not supported (or that may be supported in a different manner) in Word.
