Activation Lock Won't Accept Owner's ID and Password in Activation Lock Screen

I performed an erase on my iPhone 6 . Sold it to someone out of state. That person gets the Activation Lock page. I cannot remove the phone from my device list because it no longer appears. My user ID and password are not accepted when new owner enters them. What can I do next? Thank you

By "I cannot remove the phone from my device list because it no longer appears" you mean if you visit icloud.com and go to Find my ... option?
Did you remove the phone there already or what other actions did you perform?

The preferred way is going to icloud.com (on a computer and make sure the phone is turned off!)> Find my Iphone. If the device hasn't been deleted yet, it should appear with status "Offline".
If it doesn't appear, it should be ok.

All the new owner has to do now is connect it to a computer with itunes and restore it to factory settings.

Most important is that you've logged out of icloud/ deactivated Find my iPhone.

Thanks subbaas. Here is what I did:

Erased iphone (did not log out of iCloud or FInd my iphone first)

When it came back on there was a welcome or hello page

Turned it back off and sold it to an out of state buyer

Buyer turns it on and gets to the activation lock page and can go no further.

Gave buyer my ID and PW and they were not accepted

I cannot remove the device from the iCloud.com as it is no longer listed there. Only my current devices are there.

I appreciate any assistance because this one seems too difficult.

I will have new owner do this again but I am reasonably sure its been turned off. Will have it done again. Do you know if on the Activation Lock sign is page, the prompt that is given for the user ID has the correct/desired trailing portion of the ID? In this situation it is asking for ****@Yahoo.com. I never had a yahoo address so I wonder if this is a generic example or whether the new owner tried to put in her ID which may have been ****@Yahoo.com and now it really needs her ID and PW.

No, this is not generic. If the new owner is being asked for a Yahoo address, then a Yahoo address is required. If neither you nor the new owner ever had a Yahoo address, then the issue may be that you (assuming you are the one and only previous and original owner) may have purchased the iPhone from some non-Apple-authorized vendor. I have seen cases (on this forum) where this has happened. The original vendor (even though it's from years ago) may have to be involved.

If the new owner has a Yahoo address, then that is worth a try!
