MacBook Air not recognizing USB SuperDrive

I am trying to use my USB SuperDrive with my MacBook Air. This has never been a problem in the past and the SuperDrive and disk I am using both function with my work MacBook.

Trying to get my later 2012 MacBook Air running OS X 10.11.6 to recognize the drive. I have already tried updating the software and resetting the SMC. I can hear a small sound when I insert the drive into the USB port and have used the USB port for other functions without any issues. It is only the SuperDrive that isn't "seen"
