Can I format a 128GB Micro SD card using my macs card reader/writer Mac OS extended journaled

I inserted the micro card into a SD card adaptor and inserted it into the card reader on my mac. It recognised the card as a FAT32. Using disc utility I erased it and reformatted it Mac OS extended (journaled) and it appeared to format OK, it reported DONE. But I could not eject it as it remained busy. After moving the SD Card icon to the trash to eject it and physically removing the card and reinserting it the SD Card icon does not appear and does not show in Finder or the Disc Utility.

How do I get the SD card to be recognised by the OS?

Yes

Restart the iMac, then re-inserting the micro card and adapter into the computer.

If that does not help, reset the SMC as per Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Then if it still does not work, return/exchange the micro card claiming that it was DOA.
