Watch screen detached popped off

User uploaded file

Took my Apple Watch series 1 off the charger and found the screen has popped off! No damage, no scratches, never been dropped and only wear it at weekends/workouts so it is immaculate. AppleSupport informed me that due to being out of warranty I needed to pay a £206 service charge... considering a new series 1 watch cost £269 it's safe to say I could not justify that and was not willing to proceed with that . Disgusted that the screen on my watch can just pop off. After a quick google, I am definitely not the first to have this issue. It's almost as though whilst it has been charging something has expanded/shrunk.

Question is where do I go from here as the screen will not stay in position when I press it back.

Hi

Apple advises that you should not continue using a damaged Apple Watch.

If you wish to continue using your watch, then - as you have been advised by Apple Support - I suggest that you arrange for it to be replaced via chargeable, out-of-warranty service.

To do so, contact Apple Support again (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider:

I had this happen also. I've never dropped my watch, never banged it on anything. I had a protective cover on it and it still looked brand new, so it was in excellent condition. How many of the gen1 watches is this happening to? I was told that when the battery goes bad it expands and the screen pops off so as to not damage the rest of the watch. I was also told it would be $79 to replace the battery or over $200 to replace with a refurbished watch! Well, guess what? Never had a choice. They just replaced it! I find it difficult to believe that the watch was damaged beyond repair. But, I was never told exactly what was wrong with it, so I don't really know if I'm being scammed or not. I was planning on buying a new gen3 watch this year, but now I have over $500 invested in this watch, so I'm not sure it's financially worth it.
