Is email from id.appleid.com a scam?

I just received an email supposedly from appleid@ID.APPLE.com (but addressed to a random fictious first name/ last name although using my email address) saying that I had changed my email address and I needed to login to id.apple.com to verify my login.

I suspected a phish but when I look at the header and html code they seem to be pointing to apple domains.

Is https://id.apple.com a valid URL? I know appleid.apple.com is valid according to the apple site?

Can any sleuth shed any light? Is this phishing email or not?
