Blackscreen on macOS boot ****ERROR ArchiveGetData...

Hello,

I just updated to macOS 10.12.4 an something strange happens.

The Vault is active, so after entering my password, the system creates a blackscreen with error mesages like

****ERROR ArchiveGetData Couldn't find file: unlockOptions.int32

****ERROR ArchiveGetData Couldn't find file: 1_flag_menu_item.png

and so on.

Here is a screenshot i took via phone:

The startup itself doesn't take longer. It continues to boot normally into macOS except it doesn't show the Apple Logo and the progress bar.

So my question is, since there are some pngs, is the system not able to find the load bar (are those the images and background images?). Where does this come from?

Should I re-install macOS 10.12.4? Or is there an easier way to fix this?

Many thanks.

Hello cdhw,

thank you, this isn't it. The harddrive is fine and this error occured just after the update to 10.12.4. So something in the update process went wrong, or Apple changed something else.

I tried the Repair. Also logged into Safe Mode and into recovery mode. Nothing helps. If all fails I will re-install macOS...and slowly it starts to feel like Windows :-)

BTW, if one looks closely, you can see the status bar within the black screen...so it just seems the bakcground image is lost???? Don't know.

Yes, you may be right. So, the thing I didn't try yet is to re-enable FileVault encryption. Maybe there is a chance that the whole problem only occurs if the system is upgraded when it is encrypted. So a way to try would be to de-crypt, upgrade, and then encrypt again.

I am not doing that right now because I believe that it might cause some other problems since I am not using a standard Mac configuration anymore (talking about not officially supported Processor and NVIDIA Titan X Graphics Card). Maybe I'll try later, but if you are going to try, let me know if that solved the problem.

Decrypting and re-encrypting isn't a viable option for me. Almost 3TB in my primary volume. It would take me 24 hours in each direction, to cure an essentially cosmetic issue. I can live with it. :)

I'm also running a non-standard config. nvidia GTX 980 ti, with firmware flashed by macvidcards.com, upgraded processors, and jacked up RAM. Weird question, but do you play Hearthstone, and if so do you get any graphics glitches in The game under Sierra?

Ah okay then.

Well no, I am not playing Hearthstone...I mostly do my gaming on the Windows 10 Drive (I boot up in Windows to play titles not available on Mac). However, it is possible that you might experience glitches. I found out that I am not able to read iBooks on my mac. The windows shows transparent. If I deactivate the NVIDIA WebDrivers, it works.
