Change the colour of the strikethrough bar?

MacBook OS 10.12.3

iBooks Author 2.5

Pages 6.1

I have also posted this question in the iBooks Author discussion group.

I would like to change the colour of the bar when using the strikethrough version of a font from black to red, or even red bold.

I am using Helvetica Neue size 16 and black is just not noticeable enough in short words.

Is this possible, please?

Many thanks in advance,

Graham

It is quite simple to make a new red, strike-through character style in Pages v6.1. This would apply to all releases of Pages v5 through v6.1 (current of this post).

Steps

  1. Select any arbitrary word in Pages v6.1
  2. Press command+T to launch the Fonts panel
    1. Click on the strike-through icon on the Fonts panel toolbar

Click color on the menu first, and from the Color picker, choose your vivid red (hex: #FF0000).

    2. Now, click the single, strike-through menu item on that same menu. A red, strike-through appears in the selected word. I would advise against using bold text with a strike-through.
    3. Close the Fonts panel and the Color chooser.
  3. With the red, strike-through word still selected, click on the Format : Text : Character Style selector to the right.
    1. Click the black +. This will add a new Character style menu item, which you name Red Strike-through. The menu item will not show the red color.
    2. Optionally, you can move your pointer over the right-end of this new Character style menu item, and follow a sub-menu to assign this new style to F1 - F8 as a shortcut.

With the above steps, you now have a red strike-through character style that you can apply in future Pages documents.

For iBooks Author, you follow the same steps as 1 - 2c above. Then, click the blue styles drawer icon, and under character styles, click the black downward triangle that now appears on the None style, and from that pop-up menu, choose Create new character style from selection..., give it the Red Strike-through name, and optionally, you can modify it here, or simply click OK to have a new visually red strike-through appear in your Character style menu.
