My MacBook Pro Battery Cycle Count

Hello, I have a 2011 13" MacBook Pro and under System Information my battery cycle count reads 1237. Apple's documentation says that the max cycle count for this notebook is 1000. These days I almost always keep it plugged in and connected to a cinema display, with the notebook's display itself turned off. The edges of the MacBook's display are slightly discolored or washed-out sometimes, but other than that it seems to run fine. Should I not keep using it this way with the battery count where it is? The battery life isn't horrible, maybe 5 hours tops at this point if I'm not doing anything intensive. I run the battery down to 50% once or twice a month then just keep it plugged in the rest of the time since I have a new MacBook Pro. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Apple estimates that your battery is "spent" when it will only last for about 80 percent of the time it would last when new.

If you are getting more than the Apple estimate of 1000 cycles for your battery, and it is not inconveniencing you by running out of power at awkward moments, Merry Christmas!

The battery is considered a wear item, like the soles of your shoes or tires or brakes on your car. It will have to be replaced eventually.
