QuickTime stop default open downloaded video's

Every time I download a video or movie Quick time stops me doing whatever I am wanting to do and starts to process the downloaded file. How to stop this happening?
If no one knows how, then how can I delete QuickTime from the face of my Mac?

Hi,

Open Safari > go the Safari menu > select Preferences > click on the General tab > at the very bottom of the window, Uncheck the box next to Open "safe" files after downloading.
