Do I need a new macbook

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro and am finding it very slow. It loads very slow and even shuts down slow. When I transfer large photo files to a flash drive, it takes forever. Here are some specs to help explain what I have. 320 gb of storage with only 13.47 gb free. Memory 4 gb 1067 Mhz DDR 3 Graphics 320M 256 MB

I don't know what all that means but some of you will be able to tell me what I can do or is it even worth spending money on a 2010 Mac to improve performance. Buying a new one will be a stretch but if I have to I will.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

The reason your Mac is slow is because. of insufficient free space. You are going to have start either deleting or moving your data off of the disk drive to free up space so that the system can function normally.

Your next problem is all of the adware you have installed. Running the EtreCheck report again but this time click on the Remove icon after the report of the adware.

Once you have done all of that, reboot and then run another EtreCheck report. Post it here so that we might be able to check it once more.

I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. Maybe after analyzing the report we might be able to suggest a fix for you.

You appear to have outgrown the drive that holds all your "stuff". If you can think of things you can live without, you could delete them, but they will be gone forever.

Alternatively, you could replace the internal drive with a bigger rotating drive or an SSD drive.

If there are some things that do not need to be portable (say you never listen to jazz while on the go, only classical music) you could move your jazz collection off to another drive that lives on your desk, and not carry it everywhere with you. when you get back to your desk, plug in the extra drive, and all your jazz becomes available again.

--------

While you are thinking about more or different drives, this is an excellent time to give more consideration to having a separate large, slow drive for Time Machine backups. You do not need to back up everything -- only the files you want to KEEP. Hard Cores will tell you that NOT making a Backup is a conscious (or unconscious) decision to NOT keep your files, because: "Any drive can fail at any time." (...and will take your files with it when (not IF) it fails,
