100°C Macbook Pro. Issue?

Hi,

I've been using OBS Studio to capture my screen to create some videos and I used iStat Menus to measure the CPU and GPU temperature. While recording, the Macbook Pro (late 2013) got really hot above the keyboard, and the iStat Menus showed CPU temp of 100°C. Is that normal?

Went today to the apple store, they tested it and said it was all good. I was wondering if I should leave it to them to clean the dust inside and maybe change the cooling paste. It hasn't ever been cleaned on the interior, should I go for the dust and replacing the paste, or is that temperature normal?

100C is outside the range of the normal operating temperature but "iStat" is an entirely 3rd party developed utility.

Was Apple able to provide you with an actual temp? Was it different from what iStat claimed?

I agree with JimmyCMPIT that 100°c is on the high side for 'normal' operation. Be aware that the Mac does have thermal shutdown provisions that will prevent it from committing Hari Kari.

They just did a components test and a quick temperature test and all was good. I believe that test didn't force the CPU and GPU as my recording did. If I remember the cooling test results were about 60 or something for CPU. Not sure though.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Not sure if using a screen capturing at 60 fps it's "normal" operation. It's not browsing or anything close to that, I think it needs more than Photoshop and Illustrator where it doesn't get hot at all.
