Why is my iPhone battery dying after an hour on charger?

My phone has not been working since the newest update came out.

After a full night of charging, I take it off the charger and...

-If I do too many things on it, it freaks out and powers off saying it's dead. Once I plug it in, it's back to like 60%.

-It does super fast - even when I'm not doing anything on it (It was on 42% when I started writing this post, now I'm on 36%).

-The % goes down when I plug it into the charger (ie. plugged in when at 20%, it immediately went down to 10%, then 7%, then 5%, then 3% and stayed there).

-I constantly have to keep it in a charger. Especially when I'm at work.

-Now it also won't work with wifi OR my data (and then it tries to work and it drains the battery all over again).

Can someone PLEASE help me? It's driving me crazy. (Oh, and now I'm at 33%. It's been unplugged from the charger for 45 minutes and I started out at 100%).

Hi

For iPhone 6s, there is an iPhone 6s Program for Unexpected Shutdown Issues. If you have an iPhone 6s, then follow the instructions here to check your iPhone's eligibility for a free battery replacement and, if appropriate, to arrange service:

https://www.apple.com/support/iphone6s-unexpectedshutdown/

Otherwise, depending on the nature of the issue, your iPhone may require battery service.

Before contacting Apple, try the following steps:

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone to the latest software version:

Restart your iPhone (normally):

Check which apps are responsible for the battery usage:

  • Go to: Settings > Battery > under Battery Usage, select the Last 24 Hours tab.
  • Address any issues with potentially problematic apps (such as by removing and reinstalling them).

Follow Apple's tips for maximising battery life, as detailed here:

When charging your iPhone, follow the instructions in the following support article, including:

Check whether the issue persists after restoring your iPhone to factory settings:

If the issue persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance, including - if recommended - to arrange for your iPhone to be checked and serviced:
