update to safari 10.1 results in blocked plugins

when going to my banks website and trying to open a statement, I used to get an adobe pdf pop up. after updating to safari 10.1, when clicking on the link to a statement, the new window is black with the "blocked plugin" button. Holding the option key and clicking on the "blocked plugin" button has no effect. Any ideas on if the flash/adobe plugin s are to blame, or if its safari?

Try un-installing and then re-installing. Then go to Safari/Preferences/Security and make sure Allow Plugins is checked. Then click Plugin Settings and make sure Flash is enabled.

Yes, and it will allow me to open a pdf link from a federal website in a new tab or window. I test this method by enabling and disabling the Adobe Reader plugin. However, with the plugin disabled (where I can open in a new tab/window) Safari will still not allow me to download/save a pdf file from a subscribed photography website.

Thanks for the ideas, but yes, I've played with all the plugin settings. I do have an adobe reader plugin, and what I discovered was that I could open the pdf in another window or tab if i disabled the reader plugin. What I suspect is that the plugin I have needs to be updated to meet whatever security enhancement has taken place with the Safari update. Te reader plugin I have for Adobe Reader is version 10.1.16.

I tried this and it did not work for me.

This is the website my bank is trying to take me to: https://connect.secure.wellsfargo.com/accounts/documents/retrieve/8552c489-a31b- 4823-9c6d-5d4b0727324c?_x=NAixGw1wNpt2ir…

It will never be the same, so how will we ever be able to unblock it in Safari Preferences? I already called the bank and they said it was a safari problem, because this works in Chrome, which i also have on my MacBook, for cases just like this one, when Safari absolutely will not work. This just started happening this year. Worked last year.

Here's a very easy fix I found on another website ("Ask Different"), which worked perfectly for me:

"Although the plugin is blocked, you can still use Command-S (or File > Save As) as well as File > Export as PDF to save the file to a folder."

It had never occurred to me that I could do anything with a "blocked" file, but this is the simplest and most effective solution I have seen.

This thread is about people unable to display web files because of a "blocked plugin" notification, and all the other posts are about pdf files. If you are getting a black screen with a "blocked plugin" message, you might be able to save the file even though you can't see it - even if it isn't in pdf format. Or maybe not, but you won't know if you don't try, and if it works, it's a **** of a lot easier than all the things you've already gone through.
