System broken after attempt to install Sierra

MacBook Pro 5,5 dual core mid-2009

El capitan 10.11.6

300Go

Memory 4Go

Time Machine backup up to date

I have just attempted to update to Sierra using the MacOS Sierra Patcher Tool for Unsupported Macs (http://dosdude1.com/sierrapatch.html). The process seemed to go OK and the installation from an external USB with the patched Sierra completed.

But then I found I couldn't boot the MacBook Pro in any way, not even in Recovery mode.

I finally connected it to an iMac (on Sierra ) via firewire and reformatted the drive. But it still doesn't boot into Recovery mode so that I can't even reinstall the El Capitan system on my TM backup.

So i've ended up with a machine I can't use and I have no idea what to do now!

I really appreciate any help

Thanks for replying. The Sierra patch is designed to enable a mid 2009 MBP, and others not theoretically supporting Sierra to do so. It seems to hae worked for other users

I don't have an install DVD unfortunately, which is why I used Disk Utility via firewire from my iMac… without success.

You do realise that you are not allowed to discuss this topic on these discussion forums, you should really try contacting dosdude1, or go to the macOS Sierra on unsupported Macs forum on Macrumors.

The patch works fine as long as you read and follow all the instructions to the letter.

Actually no, I didn't realise at all ! In the end things did work out, though not exactly as the instructions described, despite my following them to the letter, or so I thought.

You will have to make a USB Installer…

Your 2009 MBP is not capable of running Sierra.

Reboot form the install DVD for your MBP and repair the disk drive from Disk Utility on the DVD.
