sound issue

On my iPhone 6 (iOS 10.3.1) when I receive a message, there is no sound. This is also the case from time to time (not always ...) when I receive a phone call.

The 'Do Not Disturb' setting is not activated, but in the 'SILENCE' section, the 'Only while iPhone is locked' is ticked.

Any solution?

Thanks

Hi, Christian!

Thanks for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you are noticing sometimes, you do not hear sounds when you receive notifications and phone calls on your iPhone 6. I know how important it is to receive your alerts, and I'd be happy to help!

First, a quick explanation of the "Only while iPhone is locked" setting you see under the Do Not Disturb settings. This applies only when Do Not Disturb is enabled. If Do Not Disturb is not enabled, the settings for it do not affect the way the iPhone behaves.

With that being said, there are some other situations when you may not hear sounds for Notifications or phone calls. Try the following in order, testing after each step to see if the issue is resolved.
  1. Make sure that your iPhone is locked. If the display is unlocked, you will not hear any sounds when receiving a Notification. The iPhone will still ring on an incoming call, whether the display is locked or not.
  2. Disconnect any headsets or speakers you may be using, including those connect via Bluetooth.
  3. Check to make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not engaged. The following article will give you information on that switch location: Get help with buttons and switches on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
  4. Verify that you have sounds active for the specific Notifications you do not hear them from. You can get instructions on setting your Messages and ringtone sounds here: Sounds and haptics - iPhone User Guide

Check the sound settings for individual Notifications. Information on how to do that can be found under the "Change alert styles and settings for notifications" section of this article: Use Notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
If you still have trouble after going through the above steps, do not hesitate to reply back. If you do, please include a bit more information about what you're experiencing, such as whether this occurs with specific Notification sounds or all Notification sounds, if it occurs with specific people who call you, if it occurs while using a particular app, etc.

Cheers!
