subtitles again!

Hello.

I just want to add a couple of lines of subtitles to a moment of bogus hidden camera footage with unclear voices.

All the title options have a 'fade in and out', that remains when the clip is trimmed. It can't see to be removed these days.

It there any way to just create a still frame from titles, which is all I need for the purpose?

Thanks

Dan

Hi, Dan,

Eliminating the title fades has been a subject much discussed.

Take a look at this thread that addresses your issue:

Remove fade-ins and fade-outs from titles in iMovie '13?

If the suggestions in the thread don't work, externally from iMovie you can try creating a title on a transparent background (.png), using the Preview program on your Mac, then dragging that into iMovie and inserting it as a Picture in Picture.

It's a bit involved, but if you want to try that, here are the steps:

1. On your desktop open a duplicate of a random photo in Preview. (Clicking on the photo automatically will open it in Preview.)

2. In the Preview main menu, click on Edit/Select All, and then press Delete on your keyboard. In the pop-up that appears, elect to convert to .png. The image will disappear and leave you with a blank .png screen.

3. Then click on Tools/Annotations/Text, and add your text to the blank .png screen.

4. Save

5. Drag your saved .png into your iMovie project.

6. Place and select it in the timeline above your video clip.

7. Select the overlay icon (the one that looks like overlapping squares) in the toolbar at the top of your screen.

8. Select Picture in Picture

9. In the selection box right under the overlay icon, select Dissolve as the transition style, and set the transition duration to 0.

10. With Picture in Picture activated, adjust the size and position of the text by moving and adjusting the size and position of the adjustment rectangle that contains the text. That should leave you with a subtitle without fades.

Hope this helps.
