Delete Frequently Visited on macOS Safari

Hello,

before i upgraded to macOS Sierra i used to delete the home page Frequently Visited sites simply clearing the history, under Safari menu. But now, at least since 10.12.4 (the last patch) the frequently visited sites didn't clear. The rest of the data (history, cache ,...) is erased fine.

Anyone with the same problem?

Hi, hal_1984!

Thank you for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities. After reading your post, I understand that the frequently visited site list in Safari do not clear when you clear your browser history. This is something that began after the latest macOS Sierra update was installed. I'd be happy to help!

The following article details what content is removed when you clear your browser history: Safari for Mac: Clear your Safari browsing history

The article does list frequently visited sites. In order to clear those, you do need to make sure you select the All History option when clearing, though. If you choose a specified time frame (like the last hour, for example), they will not clear.

If you are selecting All History and the frequently visited site list still does not clear, I can recommend the following steps. Please try them in order, testing after each step is completed:
  1. Quit Safari, then open the app again while holding the Shift key on your keyboard.
  2. Restart your Mac by clicking the Apple  menu in the upper left of the screen and choosing "Restart..."
  3. Try clearing your browser history while in safe mode. Information on safe mode, and how to boot to it, can be found here: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac
  4. Test clearing the frequently visited site list in a new user account. An explanation of why this step can be helpful, and how to create a new user, is detailed in this article: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac
Have a wonderful day!
