How can I transfer photos from a CF card to my iPad?

I use an older Canon 40D camera which records pictures on a CF card.

When not at home I would like to be able save (on the iPad), edit and display (via HDMI) these pictures with my new iPad 2017, both jpeg and RAW formats.

What are my options to transfer the photos (Apple does not sell a CF card reader), will the iPad be able to read the files and what are the best affordable apps to do light editing on the iPad (including RAW format)? Can the iPad do a "Save AS" in order to preserve the original files? Then what are my options to retrieve the pictures from the iPad to a windows based computer or a NAS drive?

Thank you in advance.

For your needs, honestly, a windows tablet would serve you better.

There are some third party CF card readers, but they can be problamatic since Apple demands that all lightning connectors be 'signed' as in approved by Apple.

There is no support for 'save as' since the iPad doesn't have a file manager.

And there is also zero support for exporting files off the iPad - in this case you'd need to upload them somewhere and download them. In addition, when the iPad imports photos it 'optimizes' them for viewing, which may not be what you want.

With a windows tablet you will have a file manager, import/export via USB of some sort and a file manager for renaming files.

Easiest method is to bring your camera along with the camera's own USB, leave the CF card in the camera and use of of either these USB to Lightning Adapters from Apple that fits your camera's USB type.
