i tried upgrading this itunes manually and had it installed but now it wont open....every time i try i get an error

"Newer version of quicktime required

quicktime version 7.1 is installed, i tunes requires quicktime version 7.1.3 or later.
Please reinstall itunes."

i tried manually updating quicktime and the error will not stop, i even then tried reinstalling the itunes like 2-3 times and still no resolve... i cant open itunes and access ANY of my music. i cant belive it's this hard to use apple software when updating. i mean wow. any body out there that can help me...even like some apple people who made the software. that would be me out. old, Windows XP Pro

    First, turn off your firewall and antivirus/antispyware software.

    Then, download quicktime standalone from this link:

    Quicktime Installers

    Select quicktime-only for this download as opposed to the quicktime-and-iTunes pack.

    After this download, are you still getting that same error message when you try to operate iTunes?

    I have a similar problem. U upgraded to 7.02 itunes and now my itunes will not open at all. I think there is a problem with the quicktime but I cannot uninstall quicktime either. Can anyone help? My itunes just will not open at all...

    Hey, Teresa!

    upgraded to 7.02 itunes and now my itunes will not open at all.

    I'll start with "basics" of this issue first.

    Try this:

    Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete on your keyboard to reach the Task Manager.
    Unser the "Processes" tab, find "iTunes.exe", and click "End Process".

    Does iTunes load up successfully now or not?

    Also, please try launching your quicktime player.

    What does it exactly do when you attempt to open it?

    If an error message appears, please include the exact text, which includes any error numbers that may accompany an error message, please.

    I also finally downloaded itunes 7.0.2. At first it wouldn't let me load the update. I was trying to load my ipod 80GB. It said that I needed the update. Well after numerous attempts, I was able to get the update and download it. Now, it not only will not load my ipod. It will not let me into itunes. I looked on my task manager and I don't see itunes.exe. Please try to help me. I have to have the itunes up and running for Sunday night!!

    I did this but it never actually "ended" the process. I did try to launch itunes anyway and again nothing happens.

    "Also, please try launching your quicktime player."

    When I try to launch quicktime it opens and says LOADING... but nothing else ever happens.

    What shall I try next?

    Try turning your firewall/security program settings to OFF prior to opening iTunes. Does that affect anything?

    Also, are you getting a message that says something along these lines when you attempt to launch iTunes?:

    "QuickTime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires QuickTime version 7.0.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes"

    If so, with your firewall and antivirus security settings turned to OFF, go to this page, and download quicktime standalone player.

    Be sure to select the one that is quicktime-ONLY, not the quicktime-and-iTunes pack download.

    My firewall and spyware is off.

    When I try to launch Itunes, the icon flashes like it is attempting and then NOTHING. No messages at all.

    I had already attempted to install Quicktime only (not the one with Itunes) and I tried it again but I get this message:

    "A newer version of Quicktime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of Quicktime is installed."

    I have alkready attempted to uninstall Quicktime but when I click on the change/remove it flashed like it is attempting but then does nothing.

    i'm in the same boat... same exact prob. i had to download the new version of itunes in order to use the new shuffle i received as a gift today. after installing i tried to open up itunes and received the same message about needing a newer version of quicktime... which i just downloaded. tried repairing the install several times and that didn't work tried just updating quicktime and that didn't work. at a loss and would have never updated my itunes if i knew it was going to throw everything out of whack. this is incredibly annoying.

    i have the same problem as you guys also. i just got a new itunes card and i was trying to load some new things, but it said that i needed to load itunes 7 or higher. So i went to download it but it said that my quicktime would not allow it to download. So i tryed to delete my quicktime player, and i even called my computer manufactuer, and the quicktime player acts like it is going to delete and then it doesnt. so i have no idea how to get this to work... i hope we find a solution, and it is also weird how more than one person is having this problem! I really need help and thank you to all that can try!

    This is very frustrating.

    I was nervous about upgrading my iTunes... why mess with something that works just fine? But, when I wanted to buy music, I got a message saying I needed to upgrade first, so I followed the links and downloaded.

    Now I cannot open iTunes at all. I get no messages, no errors. Just a momentary hour glass and then nothing. I've followed some of the advice here... I've uninstalled Quicktime, then installed the standalone version.

    Now what? I can't access any of my music!

    I hope someone knows what's going on....!

    First, try restarting your computer. Does iTunes open okay now?

    If that doesn't do anything, then I would suggest that you go to Task Manager, and under the Processes tab, find "itunes.exe" (if it is there), and End that process.

    Then, restart your computer, and when everything has loaded up again, go to Task Manager, and see if iTunes.exe is there again. If it is, end it again, and attempt to open iTunes again.

    Do you get any difference with trying that?

    hey you seem to know alot about ipods... well i have a problem with mine.. my itunes wont open at all and my quicktime player wont delete and i looked in task manager and it doesnt have itunes.exe but it has itunes helper.exe I have no idea how to fix this. I have called my computer manufactuer and they dont even know how to delete quicktime. Everytime i try to download a new quicktime it says that my old quicktime will not let it and i cant delete quicktime, and it is all messed up now and my itunes is not working at all... I REALLY NEED HELP SOOO MUCH! i would really be happy if you could help me solve this problem.. please!

    The problem's not yet solved. Here's a breakdown of what I've done so far:

    -Upgrade to latest iTunes
    -- iTunes unable to open
    -Uninstall Qicktime & reinstall stand alone version
    -Turn Firewall & security OFF
    -Attempted to end process (iTunes.exe) but it would not end (no response)
    -Restart computer
    --iTunes still will not open
    -In the Task Manager under Processes there are listed:
    -QuickTimePlayer.exe (there are two instances listed)
    --End Process for iTunes.exe has no effect
    -Restarted computer
    --In the Task Manager under Processes, iTunes.exe no longer listed, but iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe are still listed.
    -Attempt to open iTunes
    --Message box appears "Newer Version of QuickTime required. QuickTime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires QuickTime version 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes"
    -Checked the version of my QuickTimePlayer and it is

    So, now what? Should I uninstall QuickTime again and reinstall the stand alone 7.1.3 again? Or should I uninstall QuickTime AND iTunes and install the QuickTime/iTunes pack?

    I am nervouse about uninstalling iTunes, or messing with it, because in my ignorance of computer processes, I'm afraid of losing my music. Is it okay to uninstall iTunes and begin again??

    Ok Big Problem!!! Kylene I really need help, I tryed deleting itunes and quicktime. Neither will delete.
    Now This is what happens:

    When I Try to uninstall itunes this message appears-
    Quicktime installation failed Error Code: -3

    When I click on iTunes this message appears:
    Quicktime failed to intialize (error -2093). Quicktime is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes.

    When I try to install iTunes this message appears:
    The older version of quicktime cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group. **i've tried, no help**

    When I try to install Quicktime this message appears:
    The path
    'C\DOCUM~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\_is14E\QuickTime.msi' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try again, or try to find the installation package 'QuickTime.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product Quicktime.
