Voice Recognition via car bluetooth

My iPhone 6 has worked with my 2013 Nissan Altima from day one. I use voice recognition in the Nissan to make calls. All of a sudden it has stopped working. This was not following an iOS Update either. I spent time with Apple Support, my carrier, and took car to dealer. All say it's a known issue and "its being worked on".

I know the car software has not changed. Phone has all latest updates.

The car recognizes the phone, I receive incoming calls, the phonebook is visible and I can dial through the entries. But when I use the voice recognition, it only gives me the last name in the phonebook no matter what I say. I can pick up the phone and roust Siri and she will make the call and it runs through the auto bluetooth. Sounds like it's not Apple.

The carrier says it's not them.

Anyone have any intelligence on this. Seems no one is really addressing the problem, just pointing fingers at each other. Apple Support has been extremely accommodating too btw.

I do know these two additional things.... Nissans are set up to work best with Android, and the reported problems at the Carrier and Dealer are all with iPhones.

Thanks for any ideas! Saying "I Hate You" to the voice recognition does not work either ;-)

Unless the car has Siri integration, which is highly unlikely in a 2013 model, it's the head unit in the car that's processing the voice commands, not the phone.

This is a problem with the head unit in the car. Try doing a reset on the head unit, then re-pair you phone and see if it makes any difference. If not, try a friend's phone and see if you get the same results. If you do, the head unit will have to be re-flashed by the dealer, or replaced.

Thank you...KiltedTim

I like your theory!

You are correct too, there is no Siri integration. Nissan is set up for Android, and Apple Car Play is not available with this model year Altima.

I was also wondering if maybe its the microphone.

I don't know how to reset the head unit. Will I find that info in my owners manual?

I wonder if I could convince the dealer to reflash or replace the unit .... It is under extended warranty.

I'll pursue these ideas. Will definitely report back.
