Blocked Plug-in!

2011 MBP running Sierra 10.12.4 and Safari 10.1. Trying to open a .pdf file from Gmail and continuously get the Blocked Plug-in message in the new tab that opens. VERY FRUSTRATING. Don't know when I last tried to open a .pdf from Gmail. I have gone to System Preferences>FlashPlayer>Updates and the NPAPI plug-in is current- version 25.0.0.127. The PPAPI plug-in was not, but I have since installed it, now version 25.0.0.127 as well. Still can not open the .pdf. In Safari>Preferences>Security>Plug-in Settings, Adobe Reader is enabled but there is the warning message ""Adobe Reader" does not support the highest level of security for Safari plug-ins." What in the h-e-l-l do I have to do to get this dam thing working??!! Or is there nothing I can do? Very tired of this song and dance, always having to try to find solutions to these problems that seem really unnecessary....

Thanks

MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.4), 16gb ram

I don't use Gmail.

Well bully for you. This is not a Gmail issue, it's a Safari issue. You do use Safari, no?

In any event, the linked solution did provide an alternative method of viewing the pdf, however it did not answer my question about the Blocked plug-in issue. That i have found on my own now and naturally, it has to do with Adobe's security issues that it constantly has with Flash, etc... A real PITA.

Thank you for your help though.

Yup, no problem. Soooo, I don't have a document icon either, but a link like you. The linked thread in dominic23's post says to "right-click" and then open in a new tab. That doesn't work for me either, only gives me the same result- a new tab with "Blocked Plug-in". So, instead of doing that, I right-click on the link and clicked on "Download linked file" and naturally that allows me to view it. As I said in my last post, doesn't solve the problem though. But that problem lies with Adobe in that they always have security issues and Safari is blocking it due to those security issues....

Here's a very easy fix I found on another website ("Ask Different"), which worked perfectly for me:

"Although the plugin is blocked, you can still use Command-S (or File > Save As) as well as File > Export as PDF to save the file to a folder."

It had never occurred to me that I could do anything with a "blocked" file, but this is the simplest and most effective solution I have seen.
