THQ Disney Pixar Cars Game won't install

I purchased Cars the video game for my son for Christmas, and when I click on the installer icon, the DVD whirrs a minute, but nothing happens.

I have a Powerbook laptop purchased in 2006
1.67GHz PowerPC G4
512MB PC2700 (333MHz) DDR SDRAM, single SO-DIMM
1 GB Total RAM Memory
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 with 128MB of DDR SDRAM and dual-link DVI
8x SuperDrive DVD±RW/CD-RW

When I insert the DVD, the installer icon appears ("IS" icon) but nothing happens when I double click on it. Nothing at all... DVD drive spins a bit, but no error message, no system crash, no new window appears, no instructions, nothing at all... then eventually the DVD drive stops spinning and all is done.

Can you help? I hope / think that my Macintosh will support this game, but am not sure why it won't install.

Thank you!!

I am having the same problem. When I click on the installer ("IS") icon from the CD DISC 1, I see the installer bounce on the dock for a few seconds before it disappears.

The THQ website and support pages have been of no help. I have sent an email request for help to THQ, but have not yet received any reply.

I will post back if I find any solutions.

Good luck. I have run the demo of this game and it looks very entertaining. Hopefully, we can both get this resolved.

Interesting that you are having the same problem. Hopefully that means that a solution will be forthcoming. I have also registered with the THQ website and sent them an email, but nothing on the web was useful and no reply yet... but it was the week after Christmas and now New Years Eve, so perhaps they aren't at full staff.

I will also post back a reply if I figure out a solution. Thanks for the support!

Hi. I still don't have a solution, but I found a discussion forum through a Google search that turned up a possible work around (Sorry, I lost the link).

If you have access to a drive that can boot your machine in OS X Tiger (10.4), the install may work there. The post I read said that worked for them. They booted 10.4, ran the install, rebooted in 10.3 and ran the game. I don't have 10.4 to try, so I haven't been able to confirm.

BTW, I did run the install on a Windows 2000 computer using the same disks. The install did work there and the game runs. But that is my work computer and I want it on

Thanks for the tip. I also don't have 10.4, so it won't work for me either. I also have a work PC, so perhaps I'll try to install it there just so my son can see the game... but like you I would prefer it on my home Mac which he uses as his own computer.

I found two similar threads of discussion on Mac Forums, and re-posted my question there. I'll cross post back here if someone finds a solution, or you can follow-along on the following links:

I just called the technical support line from the vendor (THQ) and they said there seems to be a problem with the installer and a recent version of QuickTime. He recommended I uninstall QT, then install the Cars game, then I can reinstall QT. For some reason this might work.

I am at work currently so can't try this out, but will attempt it this evening and hopefully my son will be able to play his game tomorrow! I'll post back if this resolves my problems.

THQ have now officially responded and said they are seeing conflicts with the installer for several of their games which conflict against the latest installations of QuickTime. They reported to be working closely with Apple to resolve the conflicts, and will contact me/everyone once they have a fix.

I purchased their game for Christmas, and it is now February... I am not that optimistic. While I recognise this is a problem with THQ's game installer and not Apple, I am wondering if there are other reported conflicts with QuickTime and if there is hope yet they may get my game working for my kids at some point.

Has anyone in Apple or the QuickTime team heard of this conflict with game installers? (perhaps unique to THQ games?)

[I will figure out how to cross-post this in a QuickTime discussion forum shortly]

Thank you!
