Restart the computer in Safe Mode and then restart normally, if that doesn't fix it then re-install Mac OS again. If that doesn't work, then I'm out of ideas and you need to take it in to be looked at.

Well okay, thats a weird one , I suspect a corrupt install of Mac OS.
First backup the computer using Time Machine or create a bootable clone using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. You have not been backing up your computer and that must, repeat MUST be done or you will eventually lose critical data. You need an external HD (I recommend OWC (www.macsales.com) Mercury Elite Pro line and create your backup.
After you have acquired an external HD and backed up the computer, remember to test the backup before going to the next step, then restart the computer in the Recovery Partition by restarting and holding down Command + R. After it has restart in Recovery Partition re-install Mac OS on the drive you have Mac OS installed on. This type of install will not overwrite data however it is critical you have a backup just-in-case of a problem.

You have to call and find out.
I have the same problem. My Imac is a late 2011 model on which I have "Frankensteined" an Nvidia Geforce 765M taken from a Clevo laptop. Like you, I am only presented with one resolution; 1280X870. Worse still, the display stays black. Luckily, I had previously set the computer up for screen sharing so that I can reset the startup drive on which I have 10.12.4. Please note that this only happened when I updated from 10.12.4 to 10.12.5. Prior to that, the video performance was just fine (although I had no boot screen). I have also installed the newly-released Nvidia web drivers. I can switch between the drivers that are bundled with the system software and the Nvidia web drivers but it makes no difference. I have noticed that the 2013 27-inch Imacs all use Nvidia video cards (755 and 775). That seems to be the common denominator between your system and mine: closely related Nvidia cards. Anyway, if anyone can shed any light on this frustrating problem, I, for one, would be most appreciative.
Thanks in advance.
Go Sens!
Does anyone have any other insights into this? I find it ridiculous that, as one contributor posted, The Apple Store replaced the computer's motherboard to solve this problem. The computers work just fine on anything before 10.12.5.
Nothing obvious in your report, please post a screen shot of your System Preferences - Displays - Display - Scaled
I did that last night no effect
I'm going to do a full clean install of Sierra and see if that works. will also try your suggestions. ever done any service without AppleCare what kind of prices would I be looking at?
Did you go to System prefs/ Displays and change resolution to Default for Display?
yes only displays 1280X720.... also did full clean install and it did not work either still the same
If anyone is interested I took it into the Apple Store needed a while new logic board... just over 500 dollars. Awesome. Runs great now! Hopefully I at least get a FEW years out of it now
