My Airport Extreme Router makes a funny "grinding" noise and yellow light continously blinks. Any help?

Anyone had their Apple router continuously make "grinding" noises or continuously blink yellow? Trying to figure out if it's dying or not. Connection is also intermittent.... Any suggestions?

Then, the cause of the "noise" is the internal fan.....which is clogged with dust, or has a motor bearing problem.


When this occurs, the AirPort Extreme will start to overheat, which is no doubt why the amber light is blinking.


Apple will replace the AirPort for you....if it less than year old.....or.....if you have AppleCare in effect on one of your Macs, the AirPort is usually covered for up to three years from its purchase date. Check with Apple Support for all the details on extended coverage.


If the AirPort Extreme is not covered by warranty, about all that you can do at this point, is open up the AirPort and clean out the fan. Better yet, replace the fan. The following links will provide some tips:
