MacBook Pro won't connect to any wifi

Hi there, I need some help. My 13" MacBook stopped connecting to wifi a few days ago - not my school wifi, not a hotspot from my phone, and most importantly, the wifi I buy from my university (BigAir) on a subscription (I live on campus). My phone and iPad connect just fine. My roommates are also having no trouble with BigAir.

At first my mac's airport symbol in the menu bar would just sit on scanning – so the little bars would alternate between grey and black – but this morning I opened it up and it had an exclamation mark. I've tried turning off and on and everything, and I've looked around help forums, but most of the tips I've found involve turning off the router or using information about the WiFi network that I simply don't have because I don't own it.

My OS is El Capitan 10.11.1.

My network system preferences are all red. Here's what everything else looks like (sorry I can't supply a screenshot)

802.11n...Adapter Not connected

Status: cable unplugged

Configure IPv4: Using DHCP (greyed out)

All the other fields are blank.

When I click Advanced...

TCP/IP

Everything is greyed out

DNS

Blank

WINS

Greyed out

802.1x

Displays a profile that is different to the network I'm trying to connect to - not sure if this matters?

Proxies

Greyed out

Hardware

Also grey.

I've made a diagnostic report too, though of course I have no idea how to interpret it.

The summary says that there's a network nearby with a different country code, but I don't see how that's relevant?

It also says Hotspot Network and suggests that I open safari to log in or accept terms. Tried that, nothing.

If anyone wants to know more about the contents of the diagnostic report, let me know and I'll happily provide more info.

Thanks!!!

My network system preferences are all red

Might be corrupted network preferences.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Then copy / paste the following:

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

Then click Go and move all the files from the SystenConfiguration folder to the Trash.

Restart your Mac then see if you can access a Wi-Fi network.
