Mac Os X Sierra 10.12.4 Update Problems

Hi all,

I updated to Mac OS X Sierra 10.12.4 and I am having a raft or problems, too many to mention! I would like to roll back to 10.12.3 that was working perfectly on my MacBook Pro. I unfortunately do not have a recent Time Machine back up before I updated (not good I know). Is there any way I can roll back to 10.12.3 easily?

Many thanks

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), macOS Sierra (10.12.4)

Easily? No, not without a TM backup.

With difficulty, yes. Read below.

Please refer to macOS Sierra: Revert to a previous macOS version.

Assuming you have no Time Machine or equivalent backup of your essential files and other documents, create one now because you will need to completely erase that Mac in order to downgrade its operating system from Sierra to any earlier version. To learn how to use Time Machine read Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac.

After you have that backup and are satisfied with your ability to recover its files — or you decide that you do not need or want any of the information on that Mac, and understand that it will be irretrievably and forever lost, continue with the steps below.

  1. Shut down your Mac, and restart it using macOS Internet Recovery.
    • Read the * note to determine how to force Internet Recovery.
    • You will need a viable Internet connection, preferably a fast one, and one that does not require a "login screen" for you to connect to the Internet.
    • If you do not boot Internet Recovery, you will boot into the existing Recovery Partition, which will only allow you to reinstall your existing operating system.
  2. Then, select Disk Utility to completely erase your startup volume.

Choose one of the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) formats.

  3. Then, select Reinstall OS X.
    • That reinstalls the operating system installed on your Mac when it was new.
    • It will not require an Apple ID to install.
    • If you are prompted for an Apple ID before it even begins to install, return to Step 1.
  4. Install that version of OS X, following its instructions.

That is where you will be prompted for an Apple ID (although you can skip that step if you choose).

  5. Finally, download and install the operating system you wish to install from the Mac App Store's Purchased page.
  6. If that is El Capitan, you can use this link: Get El Capitan from the App Store.

Then, restore your files from the backup. Beware that if any of them have been updated to work with Sierra, they may no longer work with El Capitan or earlier OS X versions.

Lastly, you would be far better off fixing what's wrong with your Mac than to downgrade to an earlier operating system. If you want to do that, and I strongly suggest you do, please write back for instructions.

Not without a backup. At the time of installing Sierra prior to updating to 10.12.4 did you keep a copy of the Sierra installer app?

What exactly are your problems, you may be able to get them sorted out. First you could try installing the Combo update, Download macOS Sierra 10.12.4 Combo Update the combo update updates all versions of Sierra prior to 10.12.4. I know you have installed 10.12.4 but the combo resets some system files that may have got corrupted at some stage and may be causing your issues.

You could also run this, http://etrecheck.com/ which gives a profile of what is on your system, you can post the results back here.

Since updating to OS 10.12.4 my 1T external hard-drive does not work. It has a lot of my HD backup on it, but I cannot open it go get that out! I am very frustrated. Now, I have gotten a warning that my Apple HD is corrupted! I have done everything I was instructed to do to fix it, but it does not remain fixed. I am using a MacBook Pro Retina, 15-inch from early 2013. I really cannot afford to buy another MacBook. They really need to make the price more reasonable, but that is Apple. I could buy a PC with more memory and perks for less money, but I do not want to use a PC. I have owned five Apple Computers since 1997. So, Apple - what is the deal? Why are so many people having the same problems after updating to OS 10.12.4? Are you going to help us fix this problem without having to pay a lot of money to do so?

Hi Luis
did you solve your problems!?

I've several (mean SEVERAL) issues after this update...

unfortunately apple support tells that that are not they're fault... but i decided not to discuss anymore with this Apple support. they are very sensible to critics 😉

I'll also downgrade mot two work iMacs, so if you have any more or less easy way ... I found that the old time of Apple easy systems are gone... unfortunately 😉

all the best

I have no significant problems to solve myself, the system is working just fine.

If you need assistance, you should create a new thread, give specific details about the problems you encounter.

Also, as I recommended to the OP, post the Etrecheck report. Nobody can help you if you just say "I have problems". Most problems are just the result of software conflicts - either software that is not compatible with the current version or is plainly **** - antivirus and "cleaners" are major offenders. That is not to say there are no bugs (there is no such thing as bug-free software) - but the vast majority of problems are in fact due to other causes and not plainly bugs in the OS.

Hi Luis

I've already open a new trhread, I've post a etrecheck report and basically the result at the end is that the Apple support won't stand a critic... I've said that all my system runs perfectly before 10.12.4 update. All my software runs perfectly before update 10.12.4. After that update, I got my iMacs freeze... completely freeze...

when I see apple updates, I think that is to correct bugs... not to create bugs.

Anyway I try to find here if some one with the same problems get any way to solve, because my iMacs are not computer to play. they are to work, and right now I can not work with that computers... just to see I've to return to my old MacBook Pro (2010)....
