How can I send a podcast video via email?

Hello techies,
How can I send a National Geographic podcast via email to a friend?
I've tried importing and exporting without much success.

Hello Chris Miller,

Of course I did. I certainly would not have suggested doing something I haven't tried to do myself. Would You? I wouldn't unless we are experimenting with something, but this is not the case here.

I also mentioned to lexlizandtay to watch the filesize.
Many ISP's have a 10 MB limit on sending or receiving emails.

I also said in my above post "Works for Me"......

I have a 3.8 MB Podcast that was downloaded straight from Apple. I can send this without any problems the way I mentioned above.
I also have other podcasts that I made myself using GarageBand or Quicktime that work just fine.

Give it a try.

I tried dragging an episode into a mail message, but that didn't work. Export got me a text file. However, dragging the episode onto my desktop got me an mp3, which I could then drag into a mail message. Assuming the episode you want to send via email is small enough, this should work.

Sending audio episodes longer than about 20 minutes probably wouldn't work through most internet mail service providers. For a dot mac account the message has to be smaller than 10MB. Due to necessary encoding of an attachment, this means the episode file has to be much much smaller than 10MB.

Where is the process breaking down for you?

Hi lexlizandtay,

I should have addressed Joseph directly to avoid the confusion. Yes, I see now that you posted regarding getting the episode in an email message. How large is the file as an attachment?

As an example, I have a 1.7 meg attachment (a pdf) which on the server makes for a 2.3 meg mail message after encoding. So you can see it gets quite a bit bigger.

Chris

LexLizandTay,

Yes, that file is most likely too large to be able to send it via email through most providers.
There are many other ways to transfer files to people.

FTP is probably the best way. Upload the file to your FTP space on your Internet account if this service is available for you.
Another way would be through iChat, however 35 MB will take awhile but you can talk to the person while it is transferring. 🙂
