How do I find the serial number on the LG 5K Ultrafine display. I have searched all over the monitor and no serial number, yet when I look at the box it was shipped in there is a number associated with the display. The serial number is not show in the About this Mac System report either.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have the LG 5K Ultrafine display. On my display the serial number label is located on the back of the display underneath where the stands connects to the display. You need to remove the stand to locate it.
Just a comment. This is SO not Apple.
If Apple wants out of the display manufacturing world... that is clearly their call. But come on... You are recommending a given monitor for use with the new (wonderful) MBP. If that is your recommendation about how to ensure an "Apple experience" the work something out with the manufacturer (LG in this case) to ensure to your **very loyal user base** that the experience is going to match expectations... from the time I open the box until the time I get a hardware upgrade and sell the device. You have the clout.
Turning a new monitor (figuratively) upside down, and standing on my head to find a serial number does not seem very "Apple-like" to me.

They are usually on the rear of devices. Look in the area where the port connectors are located. If not there then turn it upside down and look at the bottom of the monitor.
The number on the box may also be the S/N.
I know, Kappy that is what is weird. There is only a tag on the bottom of the monitor that is not a serial number because it is the name number for every monitor. It is like they forgot to put a serial number on the LG 5ks.
