Would i need to wait specifically for an update to edit D40 raw files or would the latest D80 update cover it , so i guess my question is, is the current format used universal to all latest nikon cameras just released?
The answer is, Does the D40 use the same RAW formats as the D80? Until we know that, we won't have an answer. There is such a wide range of formats across brands and cmaeras that the best I can suggest is try one or two and see.
Apparently not. I just applied the update and still get "unsupported format" in Iphoto, Preview, and Aperture when I attach my D40. The finder preview function does work, however I did not try using it before apllying the update.
Whats funny is that Aperture shows the files fine in thumbnail mode before importing. After importing the image comes up corrupted, then goes blank with the unsupported format message.
Just a quick update. Using VI, I edited several NEF files and changed the D40 stored in the file (in clear text) to D70. Everything works fine after the change in Iphoto, Preview, and Aperture. So the format must be the same, or close to that of the D70.
Cross posting from the Aperture thread on the D40 raw format problem. I can now use raw files in IPhoto and Aperture while waiting for an update to come out.
