I ran EtreCheck, just to see what would come up, as I'm not having any issues with anything. Here is a screen clipping of just the red entries in EtreCheck.

CleanApp: no idea what that is or why it appears here. Should I do something or delete something somewhere?

WD: I have a Western Digital external drive on which I keep my Time Machine backups. Should I do something with this result?

Hi,

Open the Finder.

From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Then type or copy / paste the following:

~/Library/Application Support

Click Go then find the Cleanup files and move them to the Trash.

Same for: /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools

"WD: I have a Western Digital external drive on which I keep my Time Machine backups. Should I do something with this result?"

Hopefully none of your backups include those files.

EtreCheck's developer is uniquely qualified to interpret its results, but if your Mac is working well you don't need to do anything.

Don't use "cleaning" apps such as Synium "CleanApp".

You do not need to install any non-Apple "helpers" or "managers" just to use an external hard disk drive. Those utilities convey no benefit and have been known to cause trouble. Spontaneous erasure of all the information on it was one infamous effect of Western Digital's "Drive Manager" utility some time ago.

The very first thing you should do when connecting a new hard disk drive to your Mac is to erase it using Disk Utility, thereby accomplishing two objectives: 1. it formats the disk for macOS, and 2. it gets rid of the garbage software they often include.
