iPhone 6 plus touchid fingerprint sensor stopped working after upgrade to iOS 10.3.1

I recently upgraded to the latest iOS 10.3.1 release on my iPhone 6 Plus. Before this the fingerprint sensor was working perfectly.

Now the fingerprint sensor completely fails to function. I cannot even register a new fingerprint.

I've tried turning off and on, synchronising with iTunes and holding Home + Power to force a reset. Nothing works. The sensor has simply stopped functioning after a software update!!

I'm sure it's not a hardware issue as Home button still works and sensor was working perfectly before the upgrade.

Anyone got any troubleshooting ideas please?

Follow the steps here, including under the heading "Get help with Touch ID" and contacting Apple Support (mail-in service may be available, if required), making a Genius Bar reservation or visiting an Apple Authorised Service Provider if necessary:

As the issue persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider with a view to arranging for your iPhone to be checked and, if recommended, serviced (whether under warranty, if eligible, or via chargeable repair service):

I tried those troubleshooting steps already - they don't work. The sensor doesn't register fingerprints at all. Not even partially. No animation on the screen function when trying to register a new fingerprint.

The software update has clearly killed the sensor functionality somehow. As I said before - hardware was working perfectly before the upgrade!

I'm seeing the same thing on my iPad Pro. Touch ID was working perfectly until I ran the update yesterday. I even deleted my existing Touch ID and added new ones for both my thumbs, although it took longer than usual to do it. I don't think this is a hardware issue. I think something's gone wonky in the update.
