How can I turn off all the suggested past events with similar descriptions? For example, I make/create dinner plans by making an entry "Dinner - Mike's", "Dinner - Joe's", "Diner - Eddie's". I have may be 20 different entries that all start "Dinner -XXXXXX". Every time ad create a new entry for Dinner - YYYY, I get the entire list of 20 plus suggestions. I don't want to see those suggestions, how do I turn them off?

Ferd II has got it right and understands my question. As soon as I type "Dinner - ", I get a list of 20 previously used entries all different after the "-". I want the stop the 20 choices from popping up every time I start a new entry.

I think that the OP's original question is: How do your turn off the list of suggestions?
Open calendar > click on plus sign and typed > Dinner - Mike 's , and clicked on enter , then in the same way for Dinner - Joe 's ....
In the month view > selected 4 more tapped two times on trackpad .
The day view appeared , right clicked on the Dinner - Eddie 's and clicked on delete , in the same way for different names and deleted them .
Method was applied on Mac OS Sierra .
The word " suggestions " means adding some sentences while creating an event , press command > delete to eliminate , and also if there are several suggestions as what OP asked for different events .

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same exact problem and if I use an past event it doesn't sync with all devices. I want to turn this off....thanks
Same issue. Did you ever get solution to this very annoying problem? About to jettison apple calendar app.
To , select all events hold command key and tap on each event one by one to select all .Turning off doesn't make any point , once event is created .
Take cursor on top menu bar > edit > delete .
