Red contacts on messages

Hi,

I have a problem in Messages on my MacBook Pro with macOS Sierra 10.12.4.

I'm able to use iMessage and receive SMS messages from my iPhone, but I can't send messages to my contacts which don't have iMessage. Actually these contacts are marked in red when I'm in the message window.

Does anyone know this issue? Is there a solution?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.4), null

Hi, morisone!

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. If I'm understanding, you are unable to send SMS texts from your MacBook Pro. Contacts that are not using iMessage appear in red, though you are able to receive messages from them. I'd be happy to help!

First sign out of iMessage on all devices that use the service (this would include your MacBook Pro and iPhone, as well as any other Mac computers or iOS devices you own and use). To do this on your MacBook Pro, open the Messages app and go to Messages > Preferences > Accounts and click Sign Out. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages and toggle the iMessage switch off.

Once you are signed out of iMessage on all devices, sign back in on your iPhone only. You will again go to Settings > Messages and turn the iMessage switch on this time. You will also want to make sure your Apple ID is signed in under Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. If you do not see your Apple ID listed at the top of the page, tap Sign In. Once you are signed back in on your iPhone, you can sign back in on your MacBook Pro and any other devices that you use. You'll go to the same spot in the Messages app on the Mac under Messages > Preferences > Accounts to sign back in.

After signing in on the Mac, go back to your iPhone and head to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding. Check to make sure your Mac, and any other devices you wish to use the feature with, are enabled.

You can get more information on this feature under the "SMS and MMS" section of the following article: Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch

Have a lovely day!
