PYRO AV LINK (Please Help)

This used to work, but now I can't seem to even capture. I had tried different settings and switches on the AV Box, but nothing seems to work. Whenever I connect the AV cables the AV box, the little LED lights auto switch to Digital as if it won't let me capture analog. I try pressing the Mode Switch button, but no success. Can anyone suggest anything? I am capturing from the output of my VHS into FCP... or ANYTHING, but prefferably FCP. Thanks.

I've no experience with the pyro. But, some simple troubleshooting should help you identify the problem.

Round up a DV camera that does A/DV conversion and try to capture using it.

If that works, your pyro box is suspect.

If the signal makes it to the camera but you can't capture then your settings or installation of FCP/Quicktime is suspect.

If a signal doesn't make it to the camera, then the outputs of the VHS player is suspect.

Have you tried replacing the cable?

Using a different FireWire port?

Power cycle Pyro and reload System Profiler?

Push the mysterious Pyro button and reload Profiler?

The Pyro is powered, yes? Does it give you pseudo bars output?

Otherwise it probably is the Pyro itself. I don't think there should be any driver issues, I use one with Tiger and there was no software installation at all.

Then I suggest contacting ADS for a solution.

- upper left apple picture / About This Mac / More Information

- under Hardware click Firewire

You can now see what the computer is recognizing over FireWire

Whe I say reload Profiler I mean you need to open it up again after making some change - the display doesn't update itself. One way to do this is to close the current window and then go to File / New.

Should be more obvious, I found it by trial and error myself.

Power cycle means turn it off, wait a bit, turn it on again.

Mysterious button is the one under "ADS" and to the left of the lights.

Hoping you have the Pyro manual or can get to it.
