10.3.1 rapid battery drain

so i just installed the update .... come on apple whats going on my battery dies sooo freakin fast and dont tell me i need reset my phone to new or buy new phone thats bs why cant you just fix the bugs in your updates so the battery works correctly idoits -_-

Depending on the nature of the issue, your iPhone may require battery service.


Before contacting Apple, try the following steps:


Restart your iPhone (normally):


Check which apps are responsible for the battery usage:

  • Go to: Settings > Battery > under Battery Usage, select the Last 24 Hours tab.
  • Address any issues with potentially problematic apps (such as by removing and reinstalling them).


Follow Apple's tips for maximising battery life, as detailed here:


When charging your iPhone, follow the instructions in the following support article, including:


Check whether the issue persists after restoring your iPhone to factory settings:


If the issue persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnosis and mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance, including - if recommended - to arrange for your iPhone to be checked and serviced:

Couldn't agree more with you. I had an iPhone 6, downloaded the update, battery dropped from 100% to 0% in 4 hrs and was 120 degrees hot!! Reset the phone, no improvement. Actually bought the iPhone 7 to see if it was the phone. No improvement. Even on a brand new phone, the battery lasts 4-5 hrs max. Apple needs to fix this!! It is definitely an iOS issue, as I am having it even without any third party apps installed. Totally disappointed!!!!

I have exactly the same problem with my iphone 5s, to the point that it killed the battery. I thought that was the problem, so i got a new one installed, but still have the same issues. Battery use to last all day with 30 to 40 percent left over at the end of the day, now my phone barely lasts 3 hours. Have deleted apps, completely reset phone to factory settings....etc and still the same problem exists. Currently my phone with a new battery full charged, running barely any apps and after a full reset lasts about 3 hours. Even running the phone in aircraft mode the phone still has the same battery drain issue.

Great post, I hope it helps with peoples phone battery drain. Unfortunately, I've done all the above, including a new battery with no improvement, my phone drains from 100% at 10 pm to 2% in the morning, of course on stand by, reset the phone 6s to factory new and used it for a week first before my test, nothing helps. Apple needs to recognize there are far too many phones out there with rapid battery drain and fix the problem. All the people on this message board learned the hard way, it's not their phones it's IOS 10.3.1. All their phones, mine included, we're working perfectly before the update!!!

Apple could, at the very least, sign off on a rollback to 10.2 and let us reinstall the OS we know works. Let us decide if we can live with reduced security, bug fixes or whatever 10.3.1 was supposed to have fixed. At least with 10.2 our phones were working as intended, not a paperweight constantly being charged!

I have a 3 day old iphone 6s plus, set up as a new phone, restored nothing. I can get about 4 hours from the phone, it's dropping percentage numbers as we speak. Reset everything, started fresh, even turned of siri, no use. Ridiculous! Bought it for the bigger battery while traveling.


In battery settings Safari shows 40% usage, that's because i've been constantly googling for a solution. I hope the cause IOS 10.3.1.

I've too have made this observation with my iPhone 6 after updating to 10.3.1. I offer this solution with the caveat that I've seen a great many suggestions in various threads related to this problem, and no solution seems to universally fix the problem. In my case, after trying all suggestions (except for restoring factory settings) and seeing no beneficial effect, I decided to try logging out of iCloud services (select your Apple ID tile at the top the Settings options to access iCloud options). I then shut down and restarted my iPhone. This immediately eliminated the excessively fast battery drain that I had been experiencing. Not a great solution for those who want/need iCloud services. But, it did restore the battery life that I had been accustomed to seeing on my iPhone 6.
