IMessage Quesion

I don't really see an option for this in the settings and don't see people asking this question the phone I have is an iPhone 7 on 10.3.2 or whatever the latest version is.(Day of April 15th, 2017) There isn't a way to turn off data for IMessage services this is a problem considering the friends that I have don't have more than 1gb of Cellular data.(Based on Canada) and even worse is if someone is sending a photo it automatically downloads the picture using data yes I understand there is an option to lower the quality of the pictures but there needs to be a way to turn off cellular data for iMessage unless I'm missing something.

iPhone 7, iOS 10.3.1, Imessage

You can just temporarily disable cellular data altogether. But that's about it unless you want to sign in and out of iMessage every time you're not on a wifi network.

iMessage requires an internet connection. So if not connected to a wifi node, it must use cellular data. There is no way to use Apple's internet messaging service on a cellular connection and not use a data connection. All iMessage traffic is sent as internet data. Only cellular carrier based SMS texts do not use data as they are sent over your cell phones voice channel.

You could disable cellular data altogether, which will r strict iMessage to only working when on wifi. But otherwise, to use iMessage over a cellular connection, you must use data, as it is wholly an internet data service.
