My Mac freezes on login screen

When I turn my Mac on, it gets to the login screen but then freezes.

The cursor doesn't move and I cannot type anything in the password field.

When booting into safe mode I can login and things seem to work.

Log in times are a great place to start but we may have incompatible software with a launch agent or deamon that is interfering with start up. If safe mode works this is most likely the cause...or malware

easy way to tell

https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/ This malware removal tool is pretty good

If the issue is not resolved by that then you will want to look at recent 3rd party installed apps

hold option > Click the apple on the top left > click system information (Let go of option) > in the software section you can click on installations and sort by date or source. Apple stuff usually isn't an issue.
