Camera's Issue (iPhone 7 Plus)

Dear Apple!

My iPhone7 plus back camera does not work as in the camera app itself, it does not work on Photo and Video Portrait and Square option, but the camera work on other options such as SLO-MO TIME-LAPSE and PANO.

If i use the camera function on some apps such as Facebook, Instagram it does not work as well, but the camera works in Snapchat.

I have searched for solution online, but it does not seem to be my case.
And sometimes it just randomly work.

I have tried to reset, reboot, and it still not working.

Is there reason to cause it this way?

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 10.3.1

Hello,

It is unknown what may be causing this, it I definitely not normal. Try the following:

You see a closed lens or black screen

If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
  2. Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
  3. Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
  4. If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping User uploaded file. If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.

I spent over an hour on the phone with Apple Tech Support just last night. We both figured this was a software issue since the backup camera was clearly working with Pano, Slo-Mo, and Time-Lapse...just not regular video or any of the photo functions. We backed up everything to iTunes and iCloud...then did a factory reset. Voila! It then worked perfectly....wait for it...only until all of my apps finished reinstalling from the backup. Then it didn't work again. So before ringing back Apple Tech Support or making an appointment at the Genius Bar, I decided to uninstall a bunch of apps that aren't really crucial to me. Then I powered down my phone and restarted it. Voila! Now the camera is working just fine. So what I have determined is that either some new app I recently downloaded created a problem within the iPhoto app...or a recent update of one of my installed apps did it. I deleted close to 20 apps...so I have no idea which one created the dilemma. Probably some stupid game. Anyway...hope this helps!

Dear Apple Products user. I have made the experience many issues can arise from setting up the phone from a backup. Its more work from the start to set it up as a new phone but it helps to solve such issues you are describing. I hade exactly the same behavior on my phone (iphone 7 plus) like you was having. After a clean installation all was fine again. I can't Garantie it will work with your phone, but its worth a try.

I have the same problem with my 7 Plus. I don’t believe it’s a hardware issue. I have a camera app I got from the App Store and it works really well. It takes better photos than the app that comes with the phone. Both front and back facing cameras work with the 3rd party app and the photos are crystal clear so I really don’t know *** is wrong with the original app.

I just replied to this original message on Page 2 of the replies. Turns out the problem was a software glitch with another app I downloaded (or an update for one of my apps). After doing a factory reset and ending up with the same issue once all my apps reinstalled, I decided to delete about 20 of my non-essential apps. Voila! The camera started working just fine again.

Unfortunately I’m still having the same problem. After deleting some apps, it worked again...then stopped working in the same day. When I did a factory reset, same thing. I clearly have to send the phone off for service. But it’s not a hardware issue, because I ended up downloading two different apps to replace the Apple phone app (one for photos and one for videos). The camera works just fine with these other apps. So I don’t know what Apple can really do about the issue.
