Split a Table

How do I split a table? Google has not been helpful. What I mean by split is to put a split line between two rows or between two columns. After splitting the rows above the split (or columns to the left of the split) are frozen when scrolling. A very handy feature in Excel.

Hi DRR,

In Numbers you can define up to five Header rows and up to five Header columns.

The "Freeze Header Rows" and "Freeze Header Columns" items in the Table menu keep the Header rows and Header Columns on in the window as long as any part of the table is still visible.

Table with both items applied, and no scrolling done in either direction:

Same table shifted left and up:

The table has one header row and one header column.

Barry

Numbers doesn't have the feature, but you can set up to 5 rows/columns as header.

The header rows/columns will try to stay on screen while scrolling vertical or horizontal if "freeze header rows/columns" is checked for the table.

Check below in Table menu while the target table is selected.

  • Header Rows — specifies number of header rows.
  • Freeze Header Rows — Header rows tries to stay on screen if checked.
  • Header Columns — specifies number of header columns.
  • Freeze Header Columns — Header columns tries to stay on screen if checked.

They are also available in the [table] tab of Inspector pane (sidebar) for Format.

Refer "Add, remove, or freeze header rows and columns" section in Numbers Help for more information.
