Cannot sign in to iMessage with Apple ID

I had an issue with attaching a document (would not finish loading) in a gmail on my Mac Sierra 10.12.4. Eventually I had to restart the system. Somehow in the restart process I must have signed in on "Admin" as my desktop, folders etc. appeared like the day I took it out of the box. I finally found a way to sign in on "Owner" and everything appeared normal and the gmail issue was solved. But when I tried to use iMessages I saw that saved iMessages are in blue but the address in the To: line is in red. A new iMessages will not access my address book or let me type in a number for a new message. Apple ID won't let me sign in on iMessages giving "an error occurred during activation" or just won't let me sign in. Apple ID sign in and out on my iPhone 6s and iPad Air 2 work fine and all functions work.

I have tried all the recommendations for this type of problem I can find online and nothing makes a difference. Please note again that all my devises and functions including work fine except iMessages on my Mac. I am currently waiting for Apple to recover my Apple ID but I don't see what that will accomplish unless there is something specific to Mac iMessage.

Help please.
