MacOS Can't unzip or makes files invisible

I have a new Windows Server 2016 file server. From a Mac running 10.11.16, when I try to unzip a compressed file from the new file server, nothing happens. Sometimes, it does unzip, but appears to leave an empty folder. If I check the server, the files that should be there are hidden. If I use Stuffit Expander on the Mac to unzip, it works fine. I can manually unhide the files from the server and they will show up on the Mac, and I can open them.

Has anyone else seen this? Is it an issue in the latest Mac OS version with Server 2016?
