macbook hardware check

I have Intel Macbook 2006 and wanted to run hardware check using the "D" key on startup. This is not working and the "D" key is fine and operational on all other levels. How else can I do a hardware check as this Macbook is 10 years old?

IIRC, your Mac should have come with two discs; AHT is on the second one, not the installation disc. You will need this disc, not a 10.6 install disc. You may be able to find the correct one on eBay if you no longer have it. I'll give you the proper AHT number if you supply more info on exactly which MB you have: Identify your MacBook - Apple Support

Holding down the D key while booting is correct.
