Well, your iCloud account has an @icloud.com address, and as I say, if it's the 'primary address' - listed at the top of the list (if you also have aliases) in the Mail Preferences page at icloud.com - you can't remove it. iCloud provides email as part of its service, and this can only be an @icloud,com account (unless you have the legacy @me.com version as well). You don't have to use the email - you can turn it of in System Preferences (or Settings) on each device. You can the still use the other services. The iCloud Mail account cannot access your Gmail account.

Dear tygb,

The issue as provide by support group from Asia Pacific Region at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia is that the icloud email I created in the ios ipad about a decade ago when I used my gmail as the apple id is an alias of the gmail and Apple support told me straight that an icloud alias is only removeable and send to extinct when the non icloud apple id is removed as apple id and once removed as apple id that non icloud email is forever barred as apple id. This issue has nothing to do with ports. If your quoted article say one can do so on an icloud alias, I suggest that you review that article with Apple support. Thanks

This discussion is going round in circles. Whether what Support apparently told you is correct or not, it doesn't alter the fact that you can't do what you want - whether or not you change the GMail address which forms your iCloud login, you can't remove the main @icloud.com address belonging to the account. (References to removing aliases refer not to that, but to the additional addresses you can create, which I assume you have not done.) As I said earlier, you could just turn iCloud mail off in the preferences and ignore it.

Dear Csound1,

When I sign in to appleid site with my gmail, the icloud.com is reflected as alias. When I sign in icloud.com with my gmail that is also the icloud.com, same everything in the account detail. Key is the apple id is the gmail, if that icloud.com is not attached as an alias or monkey to my gmail, you can frame another term. Thanks

Dear Csound1,

The gmail I used as apple id gives me access to a host of apple applications and also access to icloud.com with all the apps attached to icloud.com. Key is that this gmail has a tag along icloud.com which I wish to de associate, and Apple current stand is that if I want to get rid of this icloud tag along, I have to remove my gmail as apple id. I want to retain my gmail as apple id minus that icloud tag along. Thanks
