Old purchases appear in "Recent Songs Added"

The Recently Added section of my library shows 15 albums of 15, which is the number of albums with tracks added in the last 3 months. If I use Ctrl+A to select all it tells me 6440 of 15, which is clearly odd, but matches the count if I look in Albums, which is 6440 of 6440.

If I look at my Recently Added smart playlist I have just 1 item. The original rules for this list were date added is in the last 2 weeks and media kind is not podcast, and it would have matched all media. This list is not created in newer versions of iTunes.

If you use the Songs view and enable the date added column you should be able to see when they were added to the library. Do you use iTunes Match at all? I'm not aware of any reason why iTunes would refresh the date added value unless you had actively removed and reimported the tracks. Are the tracks downloaded to the library or shown in the cloud?

The recently added section, as opposed to the old recently added playlist, contains the entire library grouped by albums, sorted by date added descending.
