Having to have a payment method to update apps already purchased is bs and apple should quit that Because a payment method should only be needed under different circumstances. I am seriously thinking of getting rid of all my apple products over this stupid procedure.

Hi

It may be possible to select None as your payment method. If you are not able to choose None (even for downloading free apps and updating existing ones), then the following support article explains why that is the case:

Why can’t I select None when I edit my Apple ID payment information? - Apple Support

Follow the instructions here as appropriate, including checking that your address details fully match those on file with your card issuer / bank:

If your payment method is a bank card, you may also wish to check with your bank, in case it has declined Apple's payment authorisation requests.

If you still need help, contact iTunes Support:

Having to have a payment method to update apps

You don't have to, and never have (unless you are a Family Share organiser, who will have to have a payment method on their account).

But if you currently have payment details on an account they have to be valid details and accepted by iTunes, irrespective of what you are trying to download - if that is your situation, and if you don't want to correct/update your details, try just logging into the account (not when trying to download something) and see if you can remove the card.
