I recently re-installed my macOS so now I am currently running Yosemite. However, when I click the upgrade button to upgrade to Sierra, it asks me to log in with my Apple ID. When I click login, I get the following error:
MZFinance.BadLogin.MacAppStore_message
I am able to login with my Apple ID anywhere else but not here in the App Store.
Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

The only way that I was finally able to fix this issue was to go to https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage and turn off 2 factor notification.

I have exactly the same issue. I can't login to the App Store using my Apple ID to upgrade apps. Safe mode didn't seem to help...

Having same problem, but updating from OSX 10.8. In this OS version there is no 2 factor verification. Any idea how to sort out this thing? is driving me mad :S

Try turning off 2-factor from a iOS device (iPhone/iPad) or log in to your account via web (iCloud.com) and go to preferences there ....

I had the same problem! I turned off my two-step verification and all was well after that. Sierra is downloading on my mac right now! Hope you guys figure it out!

Simple!
Turn off the "TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION" in AppleID manager.
Took me 2 hours to figure it out but is working so far
