iPad mini 4 to Apple TV (4th Gen) Airplay Resolution

I currently own an iPad mini 4. I am interested in purchasing a 4th gen Apple TV. More specifically, I am interested in streaming content directly from my iPad via Airplay.

I am aware that I can use Airplay to either (a) mirror the devices screen, or (b) cast a video directly. My question is:

For (a) and (b), what are the respective maximum resolutions available for Airplay?

Thanks!

If you are viewing video it is best to use basic airplay, this will push the video directly and it will look the same as if you were streaming it right on Apple TV.

Mirroring will push out the full display and requires more from the network, any little issue could cause degradation or lag. Also, your ipad display is 4:3 so there would nlack bars on each side when viewed on your 16:9 TV
