Two Users, Two iPods & One iTunes Program

Hello everyone,

I have an iPod and have been using iTunes. For the past month, I've downloaded all of my music into the library. My hubbie bought his own iPod today and will be using my computer and iTunes to download music. My question is, we have different taste in music and would like to sync our iPods with our different music but prefer not to do this by creating a whole new username for the computer. For those of you out there who have 2 users each with their own iPod, how do you organize your library and make sure that each of you "syncs" your own music with your iPod and not the other person's music? I read this might be done through Playlists but I'm confused about how that would work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Carolyn

Candle, to clarify the options that have already been posted on how to handlea 2 iPod/1 computer household, there are basically 3. You can create 2 separate user accounts under XP which will allow for 2 completely separate libraries. The only trick to doing this is you must turn off "fast-user switching" in XP as iTunes will not work with fast-user enabled.

Your next option is the one you mentioned, create to separate playlists for each iPod to sync to from iTunes. You will have to go into the iPod preferences in iTunes, when the iPod is docked, & tell iTunes to sync that specfic playlist to that specific iPod.

The last, & in my opinion least favorable, is to have both iPods on manual sync where you will have to drag& drop new content on to the iPod when it is in the source pane in iTunes. Hope this helps.

Here's what I do with my 30 GB Video iPod and my wife's Nano and daughter's Nano, all with on iTunes installation:

Mine syncs all of the content "normally". For each of the two Nanos (which iTunes recognizes as unique devices), I've set the device's "Sync Music" tab to "Selected Playlists" rather than "All songs and playlists". For each I then select their own playlist which were created ahead of time.

They can each sit at the computer, drags songs in and out of their own playlists and sync their devices.

Works perfectly.
