Hi,
I am trying to restore my entire Mail folder, to get back my Mailboxes (On My Mac) from Time Machine. When I enter Time Machine and select the user > Library > Mail folder, the button to restore that folder is greyed out, unavailable.
What else is possible please?

Are you sure they are not just hidden? Hover the cursor over On My Mac and click the Show button if hidden.
When in TM, you need to go back in time first before the Restore button will show. If using a network drive, give it time to mount the drive and contents before you can go back in time.
Have you tried using the Import function in Mail? If you lost the mailboxes due to upgrading the OS to Sierra, the folder structure for Mail in the user library is different. Using Restore from TM will not be the best option to use.
OK so thanks to Glenn I then did restore my Mail folder.. that worked to get my 'On My Mac' folders appearing again, however they had no mail messages in them at all.
I tried fuzzymo's suggestion to use Time Machine to restore a particular mailbox. This didn't work to restore an entire folder of mailboxes which I was hoping, so I have to go through every mailbox one by one and restore them.

Thanks Glenn, I had already done it using the other method, but I just tried your suggestion now with one mailbox as an experiment. Yep, it works. (It's V4 folder in Sierra). Cheers.
Open MAIL first, then click on the Time Machine icon in the Dock. Select the mailbox you wish to restore, then click Restore.
D'oh, you are right Glenn I had forgotten to go back in time! (it's late at night here.. 😝) Thanks.
Did you try the Import Mailbox function in Mail? It should have imported all at one time.
